We are all very excited that summer is here and the books can be put away for a month or two. Keeping a teenager entertained has proven to be a challenge, so I created a fun summer bucket list to add activities to our days that he might enjoy AND get us away from all the screen time.
We only have a few more summers together before life really changes, so I want to make the most of our time as much as I can. The thought of all this motherhood time coming to an end is heartbreaking and exciting in the same breath.

I know everyone in your home will enjoy these fun activities. I plan to print this out and put it on the fridge for the boys to pick and mark off as we complete the them. We do have a vacation planned and a week outdoor camp the will take up some of our time, but I know the rummy challenge will follow us to the beach!
Most of these activities are self explanatory, but I will take a minute and explain some of the ones you may not be familiar with.
Waterfall and Watercolor Day: Plan a hike to a waterfall and take a blank canvas with some watercolor pencils and a brush. Enjoy the water and do your best to draw the scene. It is really fun to have a collection of these by the end of summer. I suggest a sketch pad for each participant, maybe even using it summer after summer. Bring lunch and stay a while.
Rummy Challenge: We keep a running log of scores for the whole summer, not claiming a winner until the night before school starts back. The summer winner gets to pick dinner and dessert for the whole family. It is always fun to challenge our family to play so they can WIN! Really, we all win!
Murder Mystery Dinner Party: Like the game of clue in real life. Each person gets a “script” of their plan for dinner. The idea is to figure out the killer, the weapon used, and the location of the death. This works best using the whole home and inviting lots of friends. Having the kids work together to write the script is really fun! Scripts can be mailed with time for people to dress their part. We plan to start this process soon with a family from church. I can’t wait.
I would love to hear how this works out for your family! Leave me a comment if you plan to use the bucket list or if you have anything fun you do for summer with your kids!
