slow days…

It’s new for me, the no rush and go lifestyle. I thrived as the Type A, early for everything, perfectionist. Or I thought I did.

I even tried to rush the development of my children to match my life and my need for things to be ahead of schedule. When you know better, you can definitely do better.

When we moved 2 years ago, I was busy and I was trying to cram everything into our day. I was stressed out and so were my boys, ALL three. I found myself yelling and frustrated most of my day!

Joseph wasn’t learning anything I was presenting. Roy was just going through the motions. So I said, “ENOUGH!”. I paused it all. We put all the books away and closed the door to the classroom.

For about 3 weeks, no one even asked about our studies. We continued to read at night and ask questions all day long, but our books were still shut away in the dark room.

I was hopeful that the boys would make their way into the room and start to explore on their own. I was hopeful that they had enough drive to want to learn deeper. I am so thankful I was right, because my dear husband wasn’t as hopeful and he was starting to worry.

Last week Joseph went to the creek to collect water and examine it under the microscope.

On Saturday he built a boat and used all kinds of materials he found around the house.

On Sunday he asked if we could find his reading workbook because he wanted to “catch up”.

On Monday morning we woke up and went straight to the classroom. He opened his folder, wrote his name, and started working. It was exactly what I hoped would happen.

No pressure, no rush, just love and patience.

I also learned over the past few weeks that everyone in my home works better in the evening. Well, everyone except me. lol, so I will learn to adjust that character trait to better match the people in my life.
